MARRYING AFRICAN ART WITH TECHNOLOGY

Djambé, the sculpured music artefact with digital sensors.

The Djambé is a digital interpretation of the most recognizable African instrument, the djembe. It is made out of carved wood and uses a innovative digital sensor to reproduce digital sounds directly from the playing surface. This digital sculpture brings African traditions into the digital age.

In the docu-fiction”The Africologist” she uses a 3D version of this futuristic instrument as her AI Assistant. Just like Siri or Google assistant, the main character in the film invokes AAIVA (African Artificial Intelligence Voice Assistant) to ask questions on Africa and everything related.

This instrument has also augmented reality capabilities with which objects and artifacts can be projected into the real world.

To experiment with the same technologies you can ask AAIVA questions related to the film by using the chatbot on the homepage or you can try out the augmented realityaugmented reality on any iOS enabled device.
